Rediscover Dolny Wrzeszcz—join a series of unique walking tours that will take you through grand avenues, hidden alleys, and the stories of the residents of this extraordinary neighborhood.
Dolny Wrzeszcz is a neighborhood full of contrasts—on one hand, monumental avenues and modernist tenement buildings; on the other, somewhat hidden alleys, courtyards, and places that tell the lesser-known stories of Gdańsk. As you stroll through this part of the city, you can see how not only the architecture but also the daily lives of the residents have changed over the years.
The Palma Foundation and ALLCON invite you to a unique series of walking tours that will allow you to see Wrzeszcz from a completely different perspective. This is an opportunity to take a look “on the other side of the tracks,” discover the different facets of Hallera Street, and see the city through the eyes of the residents of Kościuszki Street. Each walk will be led by experienced guides who combine historical knowledge with a passion for telling the city’s stories.
It’s not just a journey through time, but also a chance to understand how history and the present intertwine in the fabric of Dolny Wrzeszcz.

11:00 a.m. On the Other Side of the Tracks

The “On the Other Side of the Tracks” walking tour will begin near the intersection of Hallera and Kościuszki Streets. The route will take us through lesser-known parts of Dolny Wrzeszcz, where we’ll examine buildings constructed during various periods of the neighborhood’s development. We’ll learn about the history of Polenhof and discover how this part of Wrzeszcz has changed over the past twenty years, both architecturally and in terms of urban planning.
1:00 p.m. Hallera – the main avenue of Dolny Wrzeszcz

A walk along Hallera Street will give you a chance to explore one of Gdańsk’s main thoroughfares, whose history and architecture reflect the dynamic changes of the 20th century. The route will take you through sections of varying character—from modernist tenement buildings and old housing estates to postwar architecture and contemporary developments. During the walk, we’ll focus on the urban layout, the functions the street served during different periods, and how its role in city life has evolved.

From here, residents once witnessed planes taking off from the airport, a plane crash in the 1950s, an explosion at the “Zodiak” in the 1990s, sporting excitement at Gedania, and everyday life in the “Polenhof” neighborhood. Along the way, we’ll explore the street’s layers of history, its architecture, and contemporary art, such as Anna Zawistowska’s headwear. The tour ends on Pestalozzi Street, where the past meets today’s vibrant Wrzeszcz.”
