“Tristis Diabolus” – Szamburski’s third solo album, following “Ceratitis Capitata” and “Uroboros” — is a musical and lyrical narrative in which the musician, supported by Marcin Wicha’s extraordinary lyrics, explores the cultural phenomenon of the devil, the demon, and the fiend. Through a unique blend of monodrama, enchanting tales, fables, and songs, Paweł Szamburski explores the fine lines that define the boundaries between good and evil. He attempts to understand and relieve the ancient figure of the Devil by lifting the age-old cultural burden from him. At times, he tries to embody him, support him, empathize with him, or identify with him. These texts take on added significance today and stand as a unique testament to the sensitivity and talent of their author, whom we bid farewell to so recently.
Paweł Szamburski—composer, improviser, and co-founder of Lado ABC. For over 25 years, he has been actively involved in the Polish and international music scene. He organizes festivals, concerts, and educational workshops, actively contributing to the promotion and dissemination of new music. He is associated with numerous ensembles, including Tupika, Cukunft, Horny Trees, Sza/Za, and Bastarda. He composes music for film, silent cinema, theater, and contemporary dance. He most frequently uses the clarinet, voice, and electronics.
